Your First Visit

We know starting with a new specialist can feel overwhelming. Here's everything you need to know before your first appointment with Dr. Bhakta, from what to bring to what to expect when you walk in.

What to Expect

Your first visit is a conversation, not a conveyor belt. Plan for approximately 45–60 minutes so we can understand your pain, your goals, and your life, then craft a plan tailored to you.

1

Check-In & Intake

Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork. If you completed the online intake form in advance, check-in is quick.

2

Medical History Review

Dr. Bhakta will review your complete pain history, when it started, what makes it better or worse, previous treatments you've tried, and what you're hoping to achieve.

3

Physical Examination

A focused exam to assess range of motion, neurological function, and pinpoint the anatomic source of your pain.

4

Imaging & Records Review

We'll review any MRIs, X-rays, or CT scans you've had, along with records from prior providers.

5

Diagnosis & Treatment Plan

Dr. Bhakta will explain your diagnosis in plain language and walk through your treatment options, answering every question you have. You are never rushed.

What to Bring

Coming prepared helps us make the most of your appointment time. Please bring the following:

Photo ID

Driver's license, state ID, or passport. Required for identity verification and medical records.

Insurance Card

Your current insurance card. If we haven't already verified benefits, please call at least 48 hours prior. See our insurance page.

Medication List

A complete list of all current medications, supplements, and dosages, including any pain medications you're currently taking.

Recent Imaging

MRIs, CT scans, or X-rays from the past 1–2 years. Bring CDs or have records faxed to (918) 369-5512 in advance. Written reports alone are not sufficient.

Physician Referral (if required)

Some insurance plans (notably HMOs) require a referral from your primary care physician. Check with your insurance carrier in advance.

Your Questions

Write down your questions ahead of time so you don't forget anything in the moment. There is no such thing as a "silly" question about your pain.

How to Prepare

A few simple things you can do ahead of your visit to make the experience smoother.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Loose, comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the area where you're having pain. Dr. Bhakta may need to examine your back, neck, or affected limb.

Arrive 15 Minutes Early

This gives you time to complete any remaining paperwork and gather your thoughts before the appointment starts. Parking is available directly at our Suite A entrance.

Bring a Family Member if You'd Like

Many patients find it helpful to bring a spouse, adult child, or trusted friend, whether for support, a second set of ears, or to take notes. You're welcome to.

Think About Your Pain Story

Before your visit, take a few minutes to reflect: When did the pain start? What activities make it worse? What have you tried so far? What would "getting your life back" look like for you? The more specific you can be, the better Dr. Bhakta can tailor your care.

Note Any Allergies & Contrast Reactions

Tell us about any medication allergies, latex allergies, or prior reactions to contrast dye, this information is critical if we pursue fluoroscopy-guided procedures.
